ARLP015 Propagation de KT7H
Poor HF radio conditions persisted last week. Sunspots began to
reappear after nearly a week of a spotless Sun, but solar flux
levels have remained low.
Solar flux was down below 75 almost every day last week. When it
reached 72.6 on April 8 and 9, this was the lowest level of solar
flux since February, 1987, well on the other side of the current
solar cycle.
Expect more poor conditions with low solar activity and geomagnetic
conditions from minor to major storm. Solar flux should slowly rise
to a peak around 100 at the end of the month, before dropping back
to current levels. After next week geomagnetic conditions should
stabilize, but then return to stormy levels by the end of the month.
The unsettled conditions should continue well into May.
Sunspot Numbers from April 7 through 13 were 0, 11, 11, 14, 15, 17
and 21, with a mean of 12.7. 10.7 cm flux was 72.8, 72.6, 72.6,
75.3, 74.3, 73.9 and73.9, with a mean of 73.6.
The projection for this week is from Seattle, Washington to
Venezuela.
80 meters should be open from 0200 to 1030, peaking from 0330 to
1000. 40 meters looks good from 1300 to 0900, with the best period
around 0300 to 0830. Check 30 meters from 0000 to 0700, with best
conditions after the Sun sets on both ends of the path. 20 meters
looks good from 1830 to 0430 with the best time toward the end of
that period. 17 meters may be open from 2000 to 2330. 10, 12 and
15 meters do not look good at this time.
